What is Hojicha?

Hojicha is somewhat of an unconventional Japanese green tea, dating back to only the 1920s.  Instead of being steamed, it’s roasted over charcoal flames which gives its distinct reddish to brown color that you see in the sample picture at the top.  The roasting brings out a rich and smoky flavor with a slight hint of caramel which is vastly different that what you’re probably used to tasting in traditional teas.  This roasting process also destroys some of the caffeine content which makes one of the better teas for Anxiety sufferers, not to mention a drink you can continue to enjoy later in the day without disturbing your sleep.
