L-Theanine is an amino acid analogue of Glutamic Acid and is found naturally in Green Tea. Its most pronounced effects in most people include decreasing Anxiety, improving cognition, and heightening concentration. Unlike alcohol and many other substances commonly used to reduce anxiety, L-Theanine doesn’t have the side effect of inducing drowsiness or brain fog so it’s generally safe to use in low doses while operating machinery or engaged in tasks that require critical thinking. Researchers have found that L-Theanine also increases the magnitude of alpha waves in the brain which are often associated with the calm and relaxed mental state typically experienced during meditation or Yoga.

While Green Tea naturally contains L-Theanine, it’s usually not suitable for people suffering from Anxiety due to the caffeine content. So I’ve searched the Web for different forms of this amino acid without the caffeine including powders, capsules, chewables, beverages, liquid drops, decaffeinated and matcha teas, etc. Although its safety is not 100% guaranteed in all persons of all different circumstances, L-Theanine has been approved in Japan for use in many different foods and drinks. In the US, L-Theanine is labeled as GRAS (generally recognized as safe) by the FDA, and many other countries in the world are catching on as well.

While I can’t say that L-Theanine has saved my life, it’s been responsible for toning down my Anxiety to a manageable level back when I was a poor and overworked college student who couldn’t afford prescription Anxiety medications. Through this site, I hope to give back to the world and help people who have suffered similar debilitating Anxiety to put an end to their plight through the help of L-Theanine as well as the books and information products I’ve recommended on my site.
